Computing

At Westleigh Methodist, our computing curriculum is bespoke to our children. We have tailored our teaching using purple mash, rising stars and Chris Quigley’s Milestones. We include the use of Sphero balls, Beebots and Code A Pillars to bring our coding skills to life through the use of programmable robots. We also ensure that e-safety is taught explicitly each term (and revisited in every lesson) so that our children feel safe using the internet, are aware of the dangers and are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect themselves online.

From our recent OFSTED inspection it was stated our computing curriculum is ‘designed well to ensure that pupils make strong progress’. They also advised: ‘pupils are taught to use a range of software. They use their skills to complete interesting tasks, such as producing presentations on topics such as internet safety. Pupils also have strong coding skills.’

Early Years Computing

Nursery and Reception will begin their computing journey through using technology to explore the world around them by programming sphero balls and using ipads. The children will recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools and they will select and use technology for particular purposes.
