1. Welcome

Our SEND Unit is a Local Authority-commissioned provision for children with autism and associated cognition and learning needs.

The unit is part of our school — another class where children belong, grow and flourish as valued members of the Westleigh Methodist Primary School community.

Our SEND Unit offers the best of both worlds:

  • Specialist teaching within a nurturing, structured environment
  • Planned and meaningful inclusion with mainstream peers on an individualised basis

Children learn in a small, specialist environment supported by experienced staff, personalised curriculum pathways and carefully designed learning spaces. This provides a secure base for learning throughout much of the school day.

Alongside this specialist provision, pupils take part in wider school life and selected mainstream lessons, as appropriate to their needs. These opportunities are carefully planned to ensure inclusion is meaningful and supports pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships.

We work closely with families and recognise the importance of strong home–school partnerships. Regular communication and structured review meetings help ensure every child makes progress from their starting point.

Places are allocated by the Local Authority through the EHCP process.

Our SEND Unit provides the right support at the right time — while ensuring children remain fully part of the Westleigh Methodist Primary School family.
