At our school, we champion Justice by helping every child understand what is fair, kind, and right. Rooted in our Christian values, we teach that justice is not just about rules, but about showing respect, compassion, and care for everyone. Children learn that justice means making sure every voice is heard and that everyone has the chance to succeed. Through lessons, worship, and daily life, we encourage pupils to stand up for what is right, support others in need, and work together to create a fair and loving school community. In this way, we live out our vision of justice as something that builds hope and peace for all.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute, speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and needy." 

Proverbs 31: 8-9

We aim to create confidence in our children so that they feel they can make a real change in the face of some of the seemingly insurmountable giants the world faces. We want our children to be agents of change so they feel they can make a difference in the world.

Spirituality Day 7.7.25

As well as looking at how spiritual development at Westleigh Methodist helps us to flourish, we are also going to explore the meaning of 'courageous advocacy'. 

Each class will look at a Bible story that includes a courageous advocate - a champion of a cause. Examples are:

1. The Good Samaritan

2. Jesus overturning tables of money changers at the temple in Jerusalem.

3. The parable of the sheep and goats emphasises the importance of caring for the hungry and vulnerable.

4. Feeding the 5000 emphasises Jesus' concern for basic needs. 

5. Jesus healed people with various ailments - healed a paralysed man who was lowered through a roof to be seen by Jesus.

6. The Samaritan women at the well - Jesus talked with the woman and demonstrated he was not bound by cultural or religious prejudices.

7. Moses and the pharaoh's daughter.

8. Joseph the dreamer - sold by his brothers but still helps them when hit by famine.

9. The widow's offering - her gift seemed tiny compared to the others, but it was more significant because she gave from poverty whilst others gave from wealth.

10. Parable of the great banquet - Jesus tells the host that when they have banquets, they should invite the poor who are incapable of returning the favour.

 

We acknowledge that this goes 'beyond the bake sale. At Westleigh Methodist, we champion causes locally, nationally and globally. At Westleigh Methodist, we follow the Methodist vision of doing 'all the good we can'. This is part of our culture and not isolated actions.

  - Advent Appeal
  Over the month of December, we ask our families to donate items to a local charity called 'The Brick' - our ‘Reverse Advent’. We are always overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. 
  
• - Harvest Festival
  We donate food to a local foodbank in October each year.
  
  - Christmas Present Appeal
   Our families, other schools in the Epworth Education Trust and the Methodist Circuit all kindly donate presents for children to ease the pressure of Christmas for many.
• Nationally
  - Hello Yellow
  We wear something yellow to raise awareness of mental health in October each year.
  
  - Supporting the Royal British Legion in November each year
  
  - Children in Need in November each year
  
  - NSPCC 
  We raise money for the NSPCC in February each year by coming to school dressed in a costume related to numbers for National Number Day.

Globally

• - Edukid is a Christian charity that helps to remove barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict.
